It is an absolutely glorious, crisp, blue-sky, sun-shiny day today, just exactly like it was six years ago…
Memories play funny tricks, but associations are, well, associations.
Hey, I’m a New Yorker. But no, I’m not permanently bitter and twisted… at least I don’t think so. I wouldn’t want others to have that satisfaction. On the other hand, let me quote something that The Temptations sang beautifully some 40 years ago. Although the context is different, the sentiment is similar on September 11th:
Sunshine, blue sky, please go away
…
I know to you it might sound strange,
(but) I wish it would rain (oh how I wish that it would rain)
…
Yeah you know people, this hurt I feel inside,
Words, they, could never explain,
I wish it would rain (oh how i wish that it would rain)
Oh let it rain, rain, rain, rain (oh how i wish that it would rain)
…
“I Wish It Would Rain”, released December 21, 1967, by the Temptations,
Written by Norman Whitfield, Barrett Strong, and Roger Penzabene

[UPDATE: some people have asked me not to wish away the glorious sunshine. Well, I adore sunshine. But those crisp clear blue skies on any September 11th? No thanks!]
