Opening up my GMail this morning I see that Google is about to rollout its fully-integrated-and-embedded Chat, which gives you live presence info and instant chat for your GMail contacts. As they say on their site, “nothing to load up, nothing to download”, which is great. Now that they’re started federating their IM service with other Jabber/XMPP services (hooray), this is extremely good news. Remember when CompuServe (what ever happened to them?) users and AOL users could not email one another? That’s the way walled-garden IM services will be remembered, one day.
